Resonance Points Guide: 165 of 200 in One Playthrough
Resonance Points guide for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy: how the 165-of-200 single-playthrough rule works, skill costs, and checkpoint rules.
Resonance Points are the skill currency of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy — glimmering white lights hidden through all 14 chapters. They are also the source of the game’s only missable trophy. This guide explains exactly how the system works, how many points you need, and how to avoid the Chapter Select trap that catches unwary completionists.
What Resonance Points Are
Scattered through the world as pickups marked by a glimmering white light, each Resonance Point is worth exactly one skill point. A few additional points arrive automatically as rewards after combat encounters. You spend them in the menu under Touchpad, then Sophia, then Skills.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Total available | 200 |
| Required for all skills | 165 |
| Points you may skip | 35 |
| Pickup form | Glimmering white light |
| Extra sources | Automatic combat rewards |
| Tracked at | Menu, Artefacts tab, bottom-left corner |
The Missable Rule
Resonance Points are the single exception to the game’s otherwise forgiving collection system. Three rules combine into one warning:
- They do not carry over in Chapter Select. Replaying an earlier chapter resets your total to whatever you had when you first played it.
- They are only saved at checkpoints. Die before the next checkpoint and every point collected since must be grabbed again.
- They cannot be farmed by replaying chapters. Unlike Blades, Artefacts, and Charms, there is no post-story mop-up.
The consequence: you must collect at least 165 of the 200 points in one continuous playthrough to buy every skill and unlock the Like a warrior trophy.
Skill Costs: Where the 165 Goes
There are six mastery branches, each with a base skill and two sub-skills. Buying a skill raises the price of the others, so the total to complete all six branches is fixed at 165 points.
| Branch | Cost (base + sub-skills) | Cumulative |
|---|---|---|
| 1st tree | 5 + 10 | 15 |
| 2nd tree | 10 + 10 | 35 |
| 3rd tree | 15 + 10 | 60 |
| 4th tree | 20 + 10 | 90 |
| 5th tree | 25 + 10 | 125 |
| 6th tree | 30 + 10 | 165 |
Buying only the first skill in a branch is not enough — the two sub-skills in each branch are required for the trophy. Owned skills show yellow in the Skills menu; unowned ones are grayed out.
Practical Collection Strategy
- Treat every chapter as final. Collect lights as you see them; the 35-point buffer gives you slack, but do not spend it early.
- Restart a chapter rather than continuing if you notice you missed more than about 10 points in it — the earlier you reset, the less progress you lose.
- Check your total at every checkpoint. Open the Artefacts tab and read the bottom-left counter. That number is what sticks.
- Sweep side paths before main objectives. Many lights sit down short detours that a point of no return will seal behind you.
- Prefer dying to quitting. Since unsaved points vanish on death anyway, reloading a checkpoint is safe; reloading an old chapter through Chapter Select is not.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Resonance Points missable in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy?
Yes. They are the only missable collectible. Points do not carry over in Chapter Select and reset to your earlier total if you replay an older chapter, so 165 of 200 must be collected in a single playthrough.
How many Resonance Points do I need?
You need 165 of the 200 available to buy every skill in all six mastery branches for the Like a warrior trophy. This means you can safely miss up to 35 points.
Can I farm Resonance Points by replaying chapters?
No. Chapter replay does not grant points again, and Chapter Select resets your total to the amount you had when you first played that chapter. They cannot be farmed.
Where do I check how many Resonance Points I have?
Open the menu, go to the Artefacts tab, and check the counter in the bottom-left corner. This is the authoritative running total of saved points.
Do Resonance Points count toward any other collectible totals?
No. They are tracked separately from the 275 physical collectibles and only feed the skill system and the Like a warrior trophy.
